My name is Joanne Mintzas and my daughter Dafni is the recipient of one of your beautiful blankets. Dafni was Born on April 2, at CHOP. She was diagnosed with Transposition of the Great Arteries and had open heart surgery at 1 day old. Her prognosis had been good, but of course everything that possibly could go wrong, did and she ended up on life support (ECMO)for 4 long days. After battling collapsed lungs and ventilators she made a miraculous recovery and continues to inspire me with her strength and determination.

After Dafni's delivery and before I even got to meet my child, a nurse came to my room with a basket of blankets and I picked out "Citrus Sunshine". I thought it was beautiful. And it was Dafni's so I was instantly attached to it. I couldn't wait to use it. Every time I would pass the nurses station, I would stop and admire all the other blankets. It was a nice distraction and something positive to focus on when everything else was so uncertain.

It would be 17 days before we could take Dafni home and that blanket was what we used to keep her warm and snug. It still is my first choice because when I look at that blanket I am reminded of all the love and support I received at CHOP by the love and care you gave in creating it. I can not tell you how often people comment on this blanket and I tell them all about your group and Dafni's experience. What a conversation piece it is! I am so protective of this blanket and will treasure it forever.

We are so fortunate to have had a happy ending even if it is in reality only the beginning. And your blanket was right there with us serving as a spirit booster, a comforter and source of warmth, and a reminder of the whole experience.

So I thank you all- especially Erin, Gail, Missy (?), Polly, and Mary Grace.
